Cruise 13 - Kimmy's Reviews

Time to Scoot! ~ By KIMMY!

This cruise didn’t go according to plans. We left Richmond and made it Miami. We thought the ship was leaving around 6 pm. We ended up stopping in South Beach with Mike’s mom...

We ate at Johnny Rockets right across from the beach. We then walked down to South Beach (across the street) and hung out for a few minutes. There is great people-watching there. We then made our way to the Port of Miami. As we drove down the causeway, I saw the ship with people on the top deck waving as they took off. I also noticed steam coming out of a pilot tugboat, the ship that leads the bigger one out to sea. We then managed to get to the terminal building where we check-in, and no one was there but a few people with the doors locked. We missed the boat by minutes, but I don’t think they would have let us on unless we were there by 4 pm.

Mike’s mom lives in Del Ray (south Florida), so she was gracious enough to let us stay there for a couple of days. We had to meet the ship in Jamaica on Tuesday and miss half the cruise.

We had a good time on this cruise, even though it was shorter due to missing the boat on Saturday. We got to the ship on Tuesday, around 12 pm. They upgraded us to a balcony room. It was really nice, and we were happy just to be on the ship. We got on and dropped our bags off. We then took a taxi tour of Montego Bay, and we saw areas like the “hip strip” and the ghetto. We saw Jimmy Buffet’s restaurant, Margaritaville, as well.

Montego Bay was nice but I wish we could have had more time there. I would go back. We did some shopping and bought a CD and t-shirts.

Grand Cayman was nice. We went on the stingray excursion. Mike was the only one that caught a stingray. We were told we couldn’t feed them anymore, though, which is my favorite thing to do.

Cozumel was a great shopping stop. The people were a little pushy about selling stuff. I got a tanzanite ring and a silver frog brooch. We ate in a Mexican restaurant. I had fajitas and tortilla soup with avocado. We then took a taxi tour and saw some of Cozumel. It looked like you could snorkel right from the beach. The taxi driver told me that a day’s worth of minimum wages would be about 5 dollars total. It would be hard living on that. One US dollar was equal to 10 pesos, so we had to divide everything by ten to get the price.

Mike rode the flow rider several times. One time he tried the surfing, and the other three times was a boogie board. It was okay, but it sprayed salt water in my eyes so they were irritated most of the day. Mike enjoyed it. Most of girls who did it were wearing t-shirt cover ups since they said it was possible for bathing suits to be come undone and loose.

The dinners were nice. We were sat with two other couples, one from Tennessee and the other was from Newcastle, England. It took about 1.5 to 2 hours each night to eat dinner. One night we had lobster, and I ate a few things like New York strip steak, Tilapia fish, and penne pasta with meat sauce. Some desserts were coconut crème brulee and banana parfait. Dinners were a little longer than usual.

I would rate this cruise a “7.”We started late and missed Haiti so we still had four stops.

We will cruise with Royal Caribbean again. I would still say they are my favorite cruise line.
