Captain's Log

By Pirate Captain Mike

This was probably my favorite cruise. We had a lot of good stops and a lot of fun. The itinerary on this cruise was awesome. St. Maarten and Aruba were my favorite stops.

I make our cruise web sites to share with our friends, family, coworkers and anyone else who might enjoy our pictures. Besides being a Pirate Captain, I work as an Art Director. I am always looking for projects that require a lot of creativity. I would really like to hook up with a travel agency or a cruise line and do some work for them.

So if you know anyone who needs a web site or any kind of advertising art, please refer me to them. And if you ever have a cruise question, ask us. I made a bunch of pirate stickers with my web site on it and stuck them all over the Caribbean. Make sure you watch our movies!

Cruise Tip #1 – Use Room Service all the time. They have door tags to order breakfast. We do this everyday. It’s the best. I also had a pitcher of Iced Tea delivered to the room everyday at 4pm. Room Service is included, go nuts with it. If I could, I would order Room Service right now, so I enjoy it when you can.

We love cruising and think it’s the only way to travel. Before we leave on any cruise, people usually ask me if I have heard about some kind of cruise tragedy that happened in the news. Recently Natalee Halloway disappeared in Aruba, the husband of a newlywed couple is missing, and many passengers got sick on a cruise to the Bahamas. Well, I’m not afraid of any of those things. What kind of pirate would I be if I were!

Actually. Kim and I don’t get into any kind of trouble while we are on cruises. I don’t let Kim out of my sight the entire time we are on the cruise. I think that is the most important rule to remember – Always bring a buddy.

Cruise 8
I can’t believe we have been on so many cruises in just four years. Once we discovered cruising. we didn’t want to go on any other kind of vacation. We like the Caribbean. I like fun in the sun. People have asked us if we have considered going on an Alaska, Hawaii, or Mexican Rivera cruise. I don’t think I would come back tan from Alaska. Hawaii is so far away, but I would like to go there sometime. The Mexican Rivera is definitely in our future. We are trying to plan something really spectacular for Cruise 10.

Royal Caribbean
We really like Royal Caribbean. We had a fantastic time on Cruise 5 through the Panama Canal. The ship “The Brilliance of the Seas” was great and much better than the Empress of the Seas. This ship was very small and did not offer the wide variety of activities that the bigger ships have. The food and the service are the best part of Royal Caribbean. We are going to continue to use Royal Caribbean and are trying to build some history with them so that we can get free upgrades.

Cruise Tip #2 – Try to get a room on a higher floor. The rooms are better. And never take a room on an inner hallway.

St. Maarten
We love St. Maarten! Orient Beach is so much fun and is so beautiful. I don’t think I could live there but it is the best place to vacation. The prices of souvenirs and gifts are very reasonable.
The only bad part about St. Maarten is that there are no pictures on the nude beach, so we can’t take pictures of all of our activities. Just remember, we had a lot more fun than the pictures show. If you search this site careful enough you might be able to find some of the secret photos.

St. Kitts
This was our second voyage to St. Kitts. What I really like about St. Kitts is the cloud-covered mountains. We took a taxi on an hour tour to see some monkeys. It was fun. Kim fed them bananas and potato chips. This was our first cruise that we saw a lot of monkeys. In the afternoon we went snorkeling. It was ok. St. Kitts is really pretty, but it is not an action packed stop.

Antigua
We had a lot of fun in Antigua. We went on the Kayak Eco Tour. Using a two-person kayak, we cruised around and saw a lot of starfish, jellyfish, Mangrove brushes, and fish. The water was very calm so we didn’t tip over. It was one of my favorite tours. I bought an awesome pair of Italian styled dress shoes in Antigua for $25. There were many good deals. Antigua offers a lot of good tours.

Cruise Tip #3 – Crackers are great fish food. Bring some along so you can feed the fish. Throw some in the water while snorkeling and you will really see some pretty fish.

St. Lucia
St. Lucia was my least favorite stop. The people were very pushy. We took a taxi tour for a couple of hours. During one of our stops, we had a problem with the locals. We stopped at a scenic view and a man got in front of Kimmy and tried to sell her some necklaces. I told him that he was annoying us and blocking our view. He apologized but still wouldn’t leave us alone. He followed us to our taxi and even reached in our taxi to shake Kim’s hand. I told the taxi driver to drive off, but he didn’t. Finally, we left and I felt very uncomfortable about what had just happened. We encountered other pushy people in St. Lucia.

In the morning we went on a Semi Sub. That was really fun and we saw a lot of good fish. But because the people are too pushy I would say there are better places to go.

Barbados
Barbados is another good stop. There are a lot of things to do in Barbados. We went Power Snorkeling. Kim really enjoyed it. If you’re not a great swimmer it’s a great way to enjoy snorkeling. While we were snorkeling, our entire group got pinched by Sea Lice. They sucked! It was like swimming through a pricker bush. In the afternoon we found a taxi that would take us to the Barbados Wildlife Reserve. We saw a lot of monkeys. When we went there on another tour, we didn’t see any. The animals are really interesting. The price of admission was kind of high, but it’s worth it if you go during monkey feeding time around 2pm. I would say Barbados is a good stop.

Venezuela, Margarita Island
We went on an hour bus ride to a beach all the way on the other side of the island when there was a nice beach right where the ship docked. Our beach was nicer but I would have been happy going to the closer beach. I don’t think Venezuela is very safe for tourists. There was a protest going on in the streets over a shortage of water. We saw it from the bus. We had to take a detour around it. The people on the beach were also kind of pushy about trying to sell us homemade jewelry and some other junk. Besides that, the beach was very nice and included chairs with umbrellas. This was our first trip to Margarita Island. I liked it but I don’t need to go back.

Cruise Tip #4 – Make sure you are back on time. The cruise ship will not wait for you. If you are late, make sure you have your camera so you can get a beautiful picture of the ship pulling away. A couple got left in Venezuela.

Curacao
We got screwed out of our tour in Curacao. We were supposed to go on a Sea Lion Encounter, but the place over booked and we just wound up waiting around. While we were waiting, we got to enjoy the aquarium area. We even saw dolphins and finally sea lions. We got a credit for our cancelled tour when we got back on the ship. I if you’re going to go to Curacao just take a taxi around. They were really cheap. I liked Curacao and I would like to go back to see more of it.

Aruba
Aruba was great! The best snorkeling was in Aruba. It was far better than anywhere else. We saw so many beautiful fish. In the morning we went Helmet Diving at DePalm Island. It was awesome. I bought a CD of pictures and movies that they took of us while we were Helmet Diving. It’s $100 person to go Helmet Diving but well worth it. After Helmet Diving we went snorkeling. We saw a lot of beautiful fish. We were fed lunch and overall it was just a fantastic tour.

We went back to the boat and changed clothes before we went to Carlos ‘n Charlies for lunch number two. We met up with Joe and Shannon for some tacos and nachos. Carlos ‘n Charlies was so much fun, but kind of expensive. There should be one of my pirate stickers on the glass by the back bar. Check it out if you go. After lunch we went looking for Natalee Holloway. My friend’s estranged Dad lives in Aruba and was involved in the case. We looked for him and found out he worked selling cell phones at the airport. We passed the airport but didn’t go in. We went to Baby Beach. The beach was ok but the snorkeling was unbelievable. It was awesome!

After dinner, we went back to Charlos ‘n Charlies and met up with Joe and Shannon again. We had so much fun. We had big Daiquiri’s. The music was good and the place is very entertaining. They had a drinking contest between crew members of our ship and a Celebrity ship. The crew members from our ship won. Aruba was great. We had a long day in Aruba and stayed until 10pm. Aruba was so much fun and we would like to spend a week in Aruba.

Our Room
We got stuck in a really small room for the first half of the cruise. After Barbados we were switched to an obstructed window room. That means a bigger room with a lifeboat right outside the window. At least we could see if it was day or night. The first room was really small. It was way too small. Once we switched, the cruise got a lot better. Also we switched to the seventh floor from the fourth floor. The fourth floor was just a bunch of hallways. The seventh floor over looked the atrium and we were right next to the computer station.

Cruise Tip #5 – You might get really depressed after coming back from a Carribean cruise. Book the next cruise right away, so you have something to look forward to.

Overall this cruise was a lot of fun. It was action packed and we did a lot of fun stuff. We hope you enjoy looking at our site, checking out our photos, watching the movies, listening to the music, and playing our trivia.
